Effective Date: January 1, 2025

Rental Agreement

By booking a houseboat rental with Egan Houseboats, you agree to these terms and conditions:

  • The primary renter must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid driver's license
  • The renter is responsible for the boat and all equipment during the rental period
  • Maximum occupancy limits must be strictly observed for safety reasons
  • The boat must be operated in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • No towing of other vessels or water toys is permitted

Payment Terms

Deposit Requirements:

  • 25% deposit required at time of booking to secure reservation
  • Remaining balance due 30 days prior to arrival
  • Bookings made within 30 days of arrival require full payment at time of booking

Security Deposit:

  • $2,000 damage deposit required (credit card pre-authorization)
  • Deposit held to cover damages, excessive cleaning, or policy violations
  • Optional damage deposit buydown available at $30/day
  • Deposit released within 7 business days after inspection

Cancellation Policy

  • 91+ days before arrival: Full refund minus $100 administration fee
  • 90-31 days before arrival: 50% refund of total rental cost
  • 30 days or less before arrival: No refund
  • We strongly recommend travel insurance to protect your investment

Note: In case of severe weather or emergency closures mandated by authorities, we will work with you to reschedule your booking or provide a credit for future use.

Operating Rules & Restrictions

  • Houseboats must not be operated after dark
  • No operation in severe weather conditions
  • Boats must remain within designated operating area (maps provided)
  • Swimming from the boat only when anchored or moored
  • All passengers must wear life jackets when on deck while underway
  • Children under 12 must wear life jackets at all times when outside
  • No smoking inside the houseboats
  • Quiet hours: 10:00 PM to 8:00 AM

Damage & Liability

The renter is responsible for:

  • Any damage to the boat, equipment, or furnishings beyond normal wear
  • Lost or damaged equipment (charges based on replacement cost)
  • Excessive cleaning if boat is returned in unreasonable condition
  • Any fines or penalties incurred during the rental period
  • Costs associated with boat recovery if abandoned or stranded due to negligence
  • Pump-out fees if holding tanks are not properly emptied

Insurance: While we maintain insurance on our vessels, renters are encouraged to verify coverage with their own insurance providers for personal liability and belongings.

Check-In & Check-Out Procedures

Check-In:

  • Friday & Monday: 4:00 PM
  • Tuesday & Saturday: 9:00 AM
  • Orientation and training typically takes 1-2 hours
  • All renters must be present for safety briefing

Check-Out:

  • All rentals: Return by 12:00 PM (noon)
  • Boat must be refueled (or fuel charges will apply)
  • Holding tanks must be pumped out
  • Boat should be reasonably clean
  • All rental equipment must be accounted for

Pet Policy

  • Pets are welcome with prior approval and additional fee
  • Maximum 2 pets per rental
  • Pets must be crated when left unattended in the boat
  • Owners responsible for any pet-related damage or excessive cleaning
  • Pets must be under control at all times
  • Please bring supplies for pet waste disposal

Safety Requirements

For everyone's safety, the following rules must be observed:

  • Life jackets provided must be worn as directed
  • No diving from the boat
  • No swimming in marina areas
  • Children must be supervised at all times
  • Emergency contact numbers must be kept readily available
  • Fire extinguishers and safety equipment must not be tampered with
  • Report any accidents or damage immediately

Prohibited Items & Activities

The following are strictly prohibited:

  • Firearms or weapons of any kind
  • Illegal substances
  • Fireworks
  • Generators or large electrical appliances
  • Towing of tubes, skiers, or other watercraft
  • Commercial use of the vessel
  • Subletting or allowing non-registered guests to operate the boat

Dispute Resolution

Any disputes arising from this rental agreement shall be resolved through good faith negotiation between the parties. If resolution cannot be reached, disputes shall be subject to mediation in accordance with Ontario law.

This agreement shall be governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.

Modifications to Terms

Egan Houseboats reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time. The terms in effect at the time of booking will apply to your rental. We will make reasonable efforts to notify customers of any significant changes.
